Jackson Lake - Wrightwood, CA

Lake Information

Fish Species: Rainbow Trout
Jackson Lake, located in the Angeles National Forest near Wrightwood, CA, is a seasonal, high-elevation fishery offering stocked rainbow trout and limited warmwater species in a tranquil mountain setting. Situated at about 6,000 feet, the lake provides a refreshing escape from the urban heat and is popular with families and entry-level anglers.

The California Department of Fish and Wildlife stocks Jackson Lake with rainbow trout during spring and early summer. Trout are readily caught using PowerBait, salmon eggs, or small lures like Kastmasters and spinners. Trout fishing is best shortly after stocking events and during early morning or late evening hours.

Bluegill and the occasional largemouth bass are present, though not stocked. These fish are typically caught in warmer months using worms or small jigs near the shoreline vegetation.

Jackson Lake is accessible only to non-motorized craft such as float tubes and inflatables, and most anglers fish from shore. Facilities include picnic areas and restrooms, making the lake ideal for day trips and casual outings.

Due to water level fluctuations and its small size, the lake is best fished in spring and early summer. Jackson Lake offers a relaxed, scenic angling experience for Southern California residents seeking a peaceful mountain getaway.
