Lake McCloud - CA

Lake Information

Fish Species: Rainbow Trout
Lake McCloud, CA, a cold-water reservoir in Siskiyou County, is renowned for its trophy rainbow and brown trout. Its exceptionally clear, cold waters, fed by the McCloud River, provide optimal trout habitat. Angling success is primarily achieved through trolling with downriggers and various lures (spoons, spinners, plugs) to target precise depths. Fly fishing is also effective in shallower zones. Water clarity is excellent, demanding subtle presentations. Access is generally good, with public boat launches. Anglers must adhere to CDFW regulations, and catch-and-release is highly encouraged for maintaining the trophy fishery.
