Mosquito Lakes - Lake Alpine, CA

Mosquito Lakes, located just a few feet from Highway 4, are two small alpine lakes that offer a peaceful retreat for outdoor enthusiasts. These lakes are perfect for camping, hiking, and fishing, with beautiful surroundings and easy access. While motorized boating is not recommended, visitors can enjoy the serenity of these lakes by using non-motorized boats or fishing from the shore. However, fishing from the roadside is strongly discouraged as it can be dangerous.

The summer cabins on the south side of the lakes are private national forest recreation residences. Visitors are welcome to use the entire shoreline, but they should respect the cabins and their private property. The area operates on a quiet hours schedule from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., with check-in at 2:00 p.m. and check-out at 12:00 p.m. Best of all, there’s no fee to visit.

Located eight miles east of Lake Alpine on Highway 4, Mosquito Lakes is easy to reach. While restrooms are available, potable water is not provided, so visitors should bring their own. The area offers excellent opportunities for fishing, hiking, and wildlife observation, making it a perfect spot for a relaxing outdoor experience.
