Brite Valley Reservoir - Tehachapi, CA

Lake Information

Fish Species: Rainbow Trout
Brite Valley Reservoir, located near Tehachapi in Kern County, is a seasonal fishery offering rainbow trout in winter and warmwater species in spring and summer. Managed by the local water district, this small reservoir sits at 4,000 feet elevation and provides a quiet, family-friendly fishing experience for Central California anglers. Rainbow trout are stocked in fall, winter, and spring. PowerBait, nightcrawlers, and salmon eggs are effective for bank anglers, while fly fishers use woolly buggers and streamers near the dam and inlet. The best action occurs shortly after plantings in cooler months. As water temperatures rise, warmwater species such as largemouth bass, crappie, and bluegill become more active. Bass fishing is most productive from late April through June, with anglers using soft plastics and crankbaits along submerged weeds and structure. Panfish can be caught using worms or jigs under a float. Access is easy with ample shore fishing and limited boat launching (electric motors only). Facilities are minimal, and water levels fluctuate seasonally, so anglers should call ahead for conditions. Though modest in size, Brite Valley offers quality fishing during peak periods and is a reliable local option for Tehachapi-area anglers.
