Pine Lake - Widtsoe, Utah

Lake Information

Fish Species: Cutthroat Trout, Rainbow Trout, Brook Trout, Tiger Trout
Pine Lake, near 9,500 feet outside Widtsoe, is a scenic 12-acre alpine lake known for its Bonneville cutthroat and brook trout. Cutthroats most often range 12–16 inches and brookies 8–12 inches.

Anglers find success casting flies—dry patterns like caddis and mayflies during hatches, or nymphs and leeches along drop-offs and inflows. Small spinners and trout dough also catch fish from shore or float tube.

The lake is accessible by Forest Service roads beginning late June and supports only non-motorized craft. Shore access is rocky, but a short trail offers multiple fishing spots. Primitive camping and vault toilets are available nearby.

Weather changes quickly at elevation; cool mornings and afternoon thunderstorms are common. Fishing is best early and late in the open-water season, before ice forms.

For dedicated trout anglers seeking a high-country wild trout experience in a peaceful, beautiful setting, Pine Lake is an ideal destination.
