Upper & Lower Lake Mary - Flagstaff, AZ

Lake Information

Fish Species: Channel Catfish, Rainbow Trout, Largemouth Bass, Black Crappie, Lightning Trout, Northern Pike, Walleye, Yellow Perch, Yellow Bass
The Lake Mary reservoirs near Flagstaff—Upper and Lower—offer two distinct fishing experiences based on elevation and water levels. Upper Lake Mary, the larger of the two, supports warmwater species such as northern pike, walleye, largemouth bass, catfish, and sunfish. Lower Lake Mary is often dry but becomes a productive trout fishery when full.

Upper Lake Mary is best known for its impressive pike population. Anglers targeting them use large lures or live bait around weed beds and deeper drop-offs. Walleye are less numerous but can be caught with jigs or crankbaits. Summer evenings bring good catfishing with stink baits, while bass and sunfish offer action along the shoreline.

Boat access is excellent, with ramps and marina facilities available. Shore fishing is possible, though reeds and terrain can limit access in certain areas. Kayaks and canoes are especially popular for reaching quieter coves.

Lower Lake Mary, when it holds water, is stocked with rainbow trout and is best fished in spring and early summer. PowerBait, spinners, and fly gear all work well for trout.

Fishing licenses are required at both lakes, and regulations vary, especially for pike and walleye. Campgrounds and picnic areas make this a great destination for families or weekend trips.

Whether you're looking for a trophy predator or a relaxing trout session, the Lake Mary system offers anglers an accessible and scenic option near Flagstaff.
