Owens River - Lower - CA

Managed to hook into the elusive Lower Owens wild rainbow the other day. Caught on a size 16 Tailwater Baetis

This fish took me a while to hook. It was all about positioning. I could see it feeding on a seam between some fast water and some water that was hardly moving at all. Problem was where I was standing to cast. Casting from the bank was tough, as keeping my line out of the fast current was almost impossible. Decided to wade into some waist deep water so I could lift my line over the fast water and got him on the second cast after almost a half hour of trying. Patience is key when targeting fish with dries in January!
