Coquille River - Coquille, OR

River Information

Fish Species: Chinook Salmon, Coho Salmon, Cutthroat Trout, Steelhead
The Coquille River, near Coquille, Oregon, is a significant coastal river system renowned for its anadromous fish populations. It supports fall Chinook salmon, powerful winter steelhead, Coho salmon, and wild cutthroat trout. Additionally, it offers excellent smallmouth bass fishing throughout its mainstem and South Fork, with striped bass also present in its lower, tidal sections.

Fishing conditions are influenced by seasonal flows; while the river can be low and clear, suitable conditions for salmon and bass exist. Fall Chinook fishing has been "decent" in the lower river, with trolling cut plug herring proving effective. Smallmouth bass respond well to small spinners, crankbaits, jigs, and worms. Winter steelhead are prized for their acrobatics.

Access to the Coquille River is available from towns like Coquille, with various public access points. Conservation is crucial for its wild salmon and steelhead. Anglers must strictly adhere to all Oregon Department of Fish & Wildlife (ODFW) regulations, including specific seasons (e.g., trout open until Oct 31) and bag limits, ensuring the long-term health and sustainability of this valuable coastal river system.
