Gooseberry Reservoir - Fairview , UT

Lake Information

Fish Species: Rainbow Trout, Tiger Trout
Gooseberry Reservoir, located near Fairview in Utah’s Manti-La Sal National Forest, is a high-country fishery known for its cool temperatures, mountain views, and solid summer trout fishing. The lake is stocked with rainbow, tiger, and cutthroat trout by the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources and supports healthy populations throughout the open-water season.

Fishing typically begins in late May and continues through mid-October, depending on snowpack. Anglers do well with PowerBait, spinners, and worms from shore or non-motorized boats. Fly anglers succeed with woolly buggers, midges, and terrestrials during summer hatches and shoreline activity.

The lake sits at over 8,000 feet and remains cool through the hottest months, keeping trout active. Primitive camping and a nearby developed campground provide options for overnight stays, and the lake allows float tubes, kayaks, and small boats (no ramp). Winter access for ice fishing is possible when safe conditions permit.

Gooseberry Reservoir combines natural beauty with consistent angling and is well-suited for family outings or anglers seeking solitude. Current fishing regulations and stocking updates should be reviewed in the Utah Fishing Guidebook before visiting.
