Lower Fish Creek - Blanding, UT

Creek Information

Fish Species: Brown Trout
Lower Fish Creek near Blanding offers a quiet, rugged trout fishery in southeastern Utah. This small desert stream supports stocked rainbow trout and wild brown trout in cooler stretches with good cover.

Rainbows are caught with worms, small spinners, and flies like caddis and beadhead nymphs. Browns prefer undercut banks and deeper pools, and are best targeted with jigs, streamers, or natural presentations. Most fish range 8–12 inches, but some browns reach 14 inches or more.

This is a hike-in fishery with minimal pressure. Summer heat can slow the bite and reduce flows, so spring and fall are the best seasons. No amenities exist, so pack in everything and check local maps for legal access.

Anglers must observe Utah’s general trout limit of four fish per day, and wild fish should be released carefully to preserve this fragile stream’s health. More details are available in the Utah Fishing Guidebook.

Lower Fish Creek is ideal for adventurous anglers looking to escape the crowds and enjoy small-stream trout action in a quiet high desert setting.
