Porcupine Reservoir - Avon, Utah

Lake Information

Fish Species: Rainbow Trout, Mackinaw Trout, Splake
Porcupine Reservoir—located at 7,000 feet in the Uintas—spans nearly 1,000 acres and offers outstanding cutthroat trout fishing. With fish reaching 18–20 inches, it's a trophy destination for float-tube and fly anglers.

Native cutthroats dominate; northshore rainbows supplement. Anglers fish sub-surface patterns like leeches or stonefly nymphs near drop-offs. Sight-cast is possible in early morning or evening when trout feed in shallow.

Rainbow trout are smaller (8–10 inches). Hybrids add surface strike potential.

Only oars and electric motors are permitted, preserving a quiet fishing experience. Shore access is limited; the best technique is float tubers.

Water levels vary seasonally. Summer winds pick up late morning; successful trips focus on calm dawn sessions.

Camping is primitive lakeside; amenities are minimal but facilities include vault restrooms.

For anglers seeking native cutthroats in a peaceful high-mountain setting, Porcupine Reservoir delivers stunning scenery and memorable fishing.
