The striper bite was considerably slower this past week than it has been for quite some time. While the bite at the Golden Gate Bank remained fairly productive, most of our boats were on shorter trips and unable to go the distance and get back in time and that resulted in a downsided fish report that while accurate, requires a bit of an explanation. The boats simply can't afford to run the distance to the Golden Gate when they are being paid for a half-day fishing trip, especially at the current cost for fuel in Cabo San Lucas, which is far higher than in the U.S. They not only have to contend with the new 16% taxes but also with a fuel docking fee of 15% of the fuel purchased. High billfish boat for the week was the "Fish Cabo", skippered by Captain Gil Marquez, producing 5 stripers released for 3 days fished. The overall catch report for a combined total of 23 days fished reflected 12 stripers, (9 released) 2 dorado, 2 mako sharks, 3 yellowfin tuna, 24 skipjack tuna, 2 wahoo and 1 roosterfish.

Cabo Climate: It has been a mostly sunny week with a few passing clouds and temps that ranged from 60 nights to 85 daytime highs. About as good as it gets. Just wonderful weather conditions.

Sea Conditions: Rather unusual for this time of year but most of the sea surface breezes are flowing in from southerly directions from light & variable to 16 mph. Pacific side, from Todos Santos and out to 15 miles, down across the Golden Gate & Jaime Banks remains at 72 degrees. This butts up to warmer waters just above San Cristobal at 74-75, wrapping Cabo San Lucas and extending into the Sea of Cortez and rising to 76-78 degrees at Gorda Banks.

Best Fishing Area: All of the billfish this past week came from the area from Cabo Falso and across to the 95 fathom spot.

Best Lure/Bait: Live bait continues to be best for the Cabo area.

Live Bait Supply: A very good supply of caballitos are available at the rate of $3.00 per bait.
