While it continues to be the mellow March at Mazatlan, we did see a bit of an increase in the billfish action as the water temps started to come up. With the rise of the water temps, the mako sharks disappeared from the area and the swordfish have not yet reappeared, either, (both like the cooler waters). Overall catches for 36 offshore fishing days reflected 19 stripers, 2 mako shark (both taken early in the week) and 1 dorado. The inshore super panga catches for 6 days fished reflected an unusually wide variety that included 75 barracuda, 3 jack cravelle, 1 cabbrilla, 54 pargo, 81 roncachos, 29 cochitos, 35 mojarres, 21 loras and 9 vaquetas. Plenty of action for those anglers fishing the inshore areas.

Mazatlan Climate: Mostly sunny days with a few scattered clouds, temps at 59 nights to 85 daytime highs.

Sea Conditions: Cooler waters inshore at 70 degrees and rising to 75-76 in the offshore areas, with calm season and light surface winds.

Best Fishing Area: The billfish and general offshore fishing has been out to the southwest of the Marina El Cid, starting at about 20 miles or so.

Best Bait/Lure: Slow trolled rigged baits still working best.
