All Summer long offshore fishing has been booming. But these days are numbered if the Newsom Administration passes passenger sportfishing boat engine regulations that stand to remove many, if not most, sportfishing boats from the water as soon as 2023.
     But, don’t take our word for it, the California Air Resources Board (CARB), members appointed by Governor Gavin Newsom, said “vessel replacement will be likely.” 
     So what is CARB’s solution? Increase passenger ticket prices now to buy new vessels later. This would require prices to more than double! This is a sure way to kill ticket sales and kill fishing participation rates.
     These proposed regulations will not only deny you access to offshore fishing as boats go out of business, it will also deny coastal communities economic activity and jobs supported by sportfishing and whale watching.
     So, your community needs your help too. CARB is showing no signs of compromise. They are not considering any alternative short of putting family boat owners out of business.
