Quillback Rockfish

The Golden Gate Fishermans Association and the Sportfishing Association of California are encouraging their members to voluntarily release Copper and Quillback rockfish. Low numbers in recent stock assessments for these two species will result in reduced fishing time in California in 2023 and 2024. If catch numbers can be reduced enough in 2022 there is a possibility that we could get some time back in 2023 or 2024.  This is a voluntary action and is not being required by CDF&W. However, CDF&W is watching returns and have already seen some positive results in early 2022. The exception to this is if CDF&W asks for Copper and Quillback carcasses for data collection. Getting some time back next year is an achievable goal if we all work together.
