Weather & Bait

With September in the rear view mirror hopefully we’ve seen the last of of our storm season.

Although we’ve been pretty lucky this year without too much damage and no direct hits, the water conditions continue to destabilize every time a storm passes by effecting what little bit of normalcy we managed to conjure up this year.

We should start to see the water begin to cool off as we get further into October. A few degrees will make or break the start of the Wahoo season. A few speedsters have already been caught on both the North and South end of Cerralvo.

So far every time this happens we get another storm event changing the water conditions unfavorably. The latest storm Orlene is headed North East making landfall on the mainland Monday afternoon. Hopefully it will stay far enough south not to change our water conditions.

Fish Talk

Not much has changed in the La Paz area this past week. We continue to have an epic Dorado bite with the fish getting larger by the day. The fish are moving around, sometimes under floating structure and sometimes just in open water. Trolling small plastic lures or strips of Bonito bellies seems to be getting the job done. Most of these fish are schooling up so leave a fish hooked up while chumming with sardines and insta chaos as your boat will immediately be surrounded. Most times one stop is all you need to limit out of the ever so tasty Mahi.

After which point you need to decide, inshore Pargo/ Cabrilla or head out offshore for Striped Marlin/Sailfish. All are plentiful and well within range.

We have new reports that the tuna are starting to school up around the banks south of us. Tuna from 10-100 kilos are chewing on the chunk. These Tuna are still too far south for daily runs but, there’s a good chance they make their way up if the water conditions continue to stabilize.

October is also the month when we move boats over to Mag bay. As I’ve reported in the past this is truly the most incredible action you could ever imagine. This trip is a multi day normally 3-5 days live aboard. We shuttle you over by car where your boat and crew awaits your arrival. We provide everything you need or want.

The variety of fish is nearly unimaginable. Tuna, Wahoo, grouper, Marlin it’s all there. We normally keep this trip going until mid December. If you have any interest please contact us. This package sells out quickly.

The next couple of weeks should be a good indicator of how the fall fishing will develop.

We will keep you informed.
