As the water cools off in the fall, look for rainbow trout to get more active and move back toward the shore. Fishing will continue to be good especially in the late fall. Wipers continue to be most active at dawn, dusk and after dark. Our spring netting survey was encouraging as we caught 38 rainbow trout per net (the most since 2007) and the average fish was 18 inches, just over 2.5 pounds and had a relative weight of 100 (a relative weight of 100 is the standard for a fish in good condition). The number and size of rainbow trout in 2025 was much closer to 2020 and 2021 when fishing was outstanding (rebounding completely from the pre-2023 drought conditions and emergency regulation changes in 2022). We also saw a few large, healthy wipers and no Utah chub (due to wiper predation which has positively affected rainbow trout growth and survival). Note: There have been no changes to the regulations at Minersville Reservoir. While the water level will be low at Minersville Reservoir in late 2025, there are no plans for emergency regulation changes because there is a conservation pool that should support the fishery through this low water period.
