February was once again another busy and productive month for the Golden Gate Fishermen’s Association.

Throughout the month, GGFA leadership and members attended multiple meetings with the California Department of Fish and Wildlife and our partners at the Bridge Group, continuing our commitment to being actively engaged in the management and restoration of our fisheries.

On February 18th, several GGFA board members and general members traveled to Tehama County to assist in assembling and building net pens in the Tehama-Colusa Canal. This important project will help imprint 500,000 salmon pre-smolts from Coleman National Fish Hatchery. Half of these fish will be trucked to a western release site in San Francisco Bay, while the other half will be released directly into the river system. GGFA is extremely excited to see the results of this effort and what it could mean for reducing straying and strengthening future salmon returns.

Later in February, GGFA leadership and members had a strong turnout at the Salmon Information Meeting (SIMS), where the 2025 salmon season data was presented along with projections for the 2026 season. With that information now available, GGFA is actively preparing for the upcoming 2026 salmon season-setting process and the Pacific Fishery Management Council meetings. Ensuring fair and meaningful access for our fleet remains a top priority.

Our next GGFA General Meeting will be held on March 12th via Zoom. All members are strongly encouraged to attend. The meeting link and agenda will be emailed to the membership. During this meeting, we will review the work GGFA leadership and board members have accomplished over the past year and outline the goals and initiatives we are focused on for 2026.

In addition, excitement continues to build for our upcoming Crab Feed fundraiser. Members have been hard at work securing donations and coordinating logistics to make this event a great success. Tickets are still available and can be purchased on our website. We look forward to seeing everyone there and appreciate the continued support of our members and community.
