Fishing conditions change quite a bit throughout the spring as snow melts

Fishing conditions change quite a bit throughout the spring as snow melts in Clear Creek Canyon. Early on, you're likely to find some ice lingering in the shadows, but you can fish pockets of open water in sunny areas. As the ice melts, you'll find more reaches to fish, until full runoff eventually raises the creek too high in late spring. Bonneville cutthroat trout are abundant in Fremont Indian State Park and can provide fair to good fishing throughout the year, as long as conditions are good for fishing. Visit sevierriver.org to see real-time flow. Notice: A portion of upper Fish Creek was treated in August 2025 with rotenone to remove invasive brown trout before they could expand throughout the drainage and threaten the conservation of fish populations. The target area was approximately 2 miles upstream of the Picnic Creek confluence, and downstream Fish Creek 3 miles. All other stream reaches within the drainage, including Fremont Indian State Park, were unaffected by the treatment and still have abundant numbers of cutthroat trout. The treated area will be restocked with more fingerling cutthroat in 2026.
