August was another busy and exciting month for the Golden Gate Fishermen’s Association, with great fishing reported up and down the California coast and encouraging news for California salmon recovery efforts.

 

GREAT NEWS FOR CALIFORNIA SALMON

 

The Bridge Group received exciting news from Coleman National Fish Hatchery that 1 million fall-run Chinook salmon eggs will be transferred to Livingston Stone National Fish Hatchery!

 

This is another positive step toward strengthening California’s salmon populations and supporting the long term recovery of this incredibly important fishery. GGFA is proud to continue working alongside the Bridge Group and industry partners on efforts aimed at putting more salmon into our rivers and, ultimately, back into the ocean.

 

GGFA LEADERSHIP PARTICIPATES IN SALMON TAGGING STUDY

 

GGFA leadership was once again out on the water in August assisting with a salmon tagging study.

 

Salmon tagging studies provide scientists and fisheries managers with valuable information about migration patterns, timing, survival, and movement along the California coast and through our river systems. By tracking tagged salmon, researchers can gain a better understanding of where these fish travel, how they utilize different areas, and when they return toward their spawning grounds.

 

The information collected through these studies helps provide fisheries managers with real world data that can contribute to better informed management decisions and our continued efforts to rebuild and maintain a healthy, sustainable salmon fishery.

 

GGFA is extremely proud to have the opportunity to participate in this important work.

 

GREAT FISHING UP AND DOWN THE COAST

 

August also provided some incredible fishing opportunities for GGFA member boats and their passengers.

 

On the North Coast, boats reported an amazing albacore bite along with excellent rockfish and lingcod fishing.

 

GGFA member boats operating out of Bodega Bay, San Francisco, and Half Moon Bay reported fantastic salmon fishing, along with excellent rockfish and tuna action.

 

Farther South from Montery bay to Moro bay GGFA member boats reported fantastic rock fishing and lingcod fishing.
