The DFG loaded up South Lake in preparation for the big holiday weekend and anglers fishing from boat or from shore reaped the benefits. The bite was on all week with the majority of anglers reporting good to excellent action on stocker trout to 1lb with a few chunky Alpers mixed in. It was difficult to nail down the top producers this week because whether you were trolling lures, dunking bait or jigging plastics, just about everything was picking up fish. South Lake staffers Ryan Wischnack and Jeff Chowdhury hit South Lake on their day off this week and caught & released over 60 fish, the biggest going 3.5lbs, all on mini-jigs at the dam. Salmon Peach, Natural Garlic and Chunky Cheese Powerbait were the best sellers this week - but from the sound of it just about any color or flavor of dough bait was getting bit. Red/Gold 1/4oz Thomas Bouyants at 3 colors produced a ton of fish for some local boys trolling the "Rock Slide". Once the back of the lake started to fill early in the week, the fish began migrating back there - including the big ones as multiple customers reported seeing small schools of fish in the 3 to 5lb class. The Long Lake inlet and the Treasure Inlet are producing best right now.
