THE CABO SAN LUCAS FISHING REPORT FOR THE GAVIOTA SPORTFISHING FLEET AND FISH CABO FLEET

Very slow in Cabo San Lucas, especially for the anglers and fishing charters. According to Captain Roberto Marquez, the "Spring Breakers" are arriving rapidly but unfortunately, they are not the fishing folks the sportfishing fleets are looking for. The fish counts for a total of 7 days fished reflected 3 stripers, (2 released) 3 dorado and 15 Sierra, with all fish taken on the Pacific side of the peninsula.

Cabo Climate: A little unexpected drizzle during the early part of the week cleared up the air but for the most part it was a week of mostly sunny days and a few passing clouds with temps that varied from 59 nights to 83 daytime highs and a humidity level at 54%.

Sea Conditions: Surface breezes were flowing in from the westerly directions and averaged about 12 mph. Sea temps varied. The Finger Bank to the southern edge of the Golden Gate Bank was all at 73 degrees, then gently rising to 75-76 degrees down across the Jaime Bank and extending out beyond the 1000 fathom curve. A pocket of cooler water, 73-74 degrees, ranged from Cabo Falso and southely, aross the 1000 fathom curve and then easterly to about 4 miles outside the 95 fathom spot and on, northeasterly to just outside the outer Gorda Bank. The temps outside this line rose to 76-77 degrees.

Best Fishing Area: There was no specific area reflected as the "Best Fishing Area".

Best Lure/Bait: Two of the 3 billfish were taken on rigged baits and the other on live bait. The Sierra taken on small shinny artificials trolled in close and just outside the surf line breakers.

Live Bait Supply: The live bait supply continues to be very good for all of the sportfishers with mostly caballitos at the $3.00 per bait rate.
