The Intrepid returned a few days ago with a nice load of Yellowfin, Wahoo, and Dolphinfish. Being one of the first boats down it's always exciting with the unknowning of what to expect as far as fishing and conditions go after a 6 month hiatus from the fleet. When we arrived it was apparent that sharks were going to be an issue but the amount of aggressive biting fish was going to make it doable. The Yellowfin would eat every kite bait and casted sardine instantly after we stopped on a school. Then the sharks would find us and shut us down. But for a decent amount of time it was as  wide open as it gets. Average fish were 50 to 110s with an occasional bigger one up to 170lbs. The Wahoo weren't as eager but everyday we picked away and ended up with 100 fish for our limited load of anglers. At the end we opted to try the lower banks for bigger Yellowfin and also to stay out of weather. We came up short on big tuna but had spectacular fishing on 25 to 45lb Dolphinfish. Weather was another factor this trip and dictated a lot of the moves we made. We did our best to stay out of it and it was manageable on the way home. Boat is headed back out on another 15 day trip in a few days. Looking forward to heading back down to warm weather and good fishing.
