The year end fishing from Puerto Morelos went out in an incredible close of great fishing for the final action of 2014. Anglers were rewarded with terrific fishing that included an unusually good sailfish bite for the time of year, along with good dorado and wahoo action and much more. The overall fish counts for a total of 34 days fished reflected a 14 fish mixed-bag medley that included 10 sailfish, 16 dorado, 15 wahoo, 18 giant barracuda, 15 blackfin tuna, 47 bonito, 21 Spanish mackerel, 5 king mackerel, 1 blue runner, 2 groupers, 6 triggerfish, 6 chac-chi, 23 banana fish and 49 snappers. The late season bite on sailfish and dorado continues right through the end of the year and with any luck at all, will start out a banner 2015 fishing season.

PM Climate: It was a partly cloudy week with intermittent sunshine and a 1-day port closure for the day before Christmas. However, the temps were really good, especially if you came in from the snowy, cold part of the U.S., and ranged from 70 degree nights to 83 daytime highs.

Sea Conditions: Other than the one port closure day, all was good with the sea conditions. Surface breezes were tropical and flowing mostly from the easterly directions from light to 16 mph and the water temps were stable at 81-82 degrees throughout the area.

Best Bait: This is the one area that seldom has anything different for bait than the freshly provided ballyhoo that continues to be the bait of choice for all of the area and so far, has been readily available for every fishing day since we began reporting.
