THE MAZATLAN FISHING REPORT FOR THE ARIES SPORTFISHING FLEET, (MARINA EL CID, PACIFIC)

The billfish bite all but shut down this past week and for no apparent reason. Most everything was the same for the offshore waters except for the cooperation of the billfish and we received the slowest billfish count of the last 10-12 months or so. On the other-hand, the inshore fishing was on the rise and the providing an excellent variety of bottom fish and plenty of overall action. The offshore cruisers reported in for a total of 17 days fished that reflected 1 sailfish, 2 mako shark and 18 dorado for their efforts. The inshore super pangas reporting in for 8 days fished reflected 2 black snook, 5 permit, 7 jack crevalle, 9 triggerfish, 20 rock perch and 116 red snappers.

Mazatlan Climate: It was a partly cloudy week with intermittent sunshine days and rain on Saturday & Sunday and temps that ranged from 59 nights to 87 daytime highs and a humidity level at 75%.

Sea Conditions: The surface breezes were mostly from the westerly direction that ranged from very light to about 14 mph. Water temps were ranging from 77 inshore to 79 offshore.

Best Fishing Area: None reported. The boats actually fished in various directions over several days but couldn't connect with the fish that would bite.

Best Bait/Lure: The dorado were biting the rigged baits and the artificials about 50-50 and the sailfish was taken on a rigged trolling bait.

Bait Supply: Excellent supply of fresh baits for rigging and plenty of live bait at the $1. 00 per bait rate.
