THE IXTAPA-ZIHUATANEJO FISHING REPORT FOR THE INDEPENDENT SPORTFISHING FLEET

Another fantastic fishing report from Zihuatanejo, provided by Captain Temo Verboonen, owner/operator of the super panga, Secuestro de Amor. The anglers had a wonderful fishing week and about the only change is the fish moved a little farther offshore. There is bait and porpoise everywhere, along with good bird activity throughout the area. The sailfish and dorado are mixed together at about 15 miles offshore from the Bay and the numbers of strikes per day are getting beyond counting. It's full on strike action with the dorado averaging about 15 kg, (30-35 lbs. or so). Nice, quality sized fish. The inshore action has increased considerably, too, with big jack crevalles in the 12 kg ranges, (25 lb. ranges) and many bigger Sierras and the better bite for inshore has taken off about noon. This has been an action packed week of fishing for all the boats and anglers.

I/Z Climate: Air temps are excellent at a low of 68 nights and daytime highs at 87-88 degrees and a humidity level at 65%. A few passing clouds but mostly warm and sunny days prevail for the entire area.

Sea Conditions: Superb sea conditions. Temperatures are stable at 82-83 inshore and rising to 84-85 offshore. Surface breezes are ranging from nearly calm to 8 or 9 mph. and flowing from the westerly directions with almost no swell.

Best Fishing Area: The fish moved a bit farther offshore to the 15 mile mark or so and we put the gear r in the water at about 13-14 miles and troll our way into the area.

Best Bait/Lure: Rigged trolling baits are working very well as are the artificials. The fish are biting at everything right now. The inshore waters have been best using live bait and every bait is a strike with the Jack Crevalles or Sierras.

Live Bait Supply: An excellent supply of both, fresh baits for rigging provided with the charter and live bait at the $5.00 per dozen rate.
