THE PUERTO MORELOS FISHING REPORT FOR THE MARINA EL CID SPORTFISHING FLEET, (CANCUN TO COZUMEL AREA, CARIBBEAN)


It has been another incredible fishing week from Puerto Morelos for the 53 days of terrific action that produced an average of 9.5 fish per boat day that was reflected in their 34 species of mixed bag catches for the week. According to our new reporter, Ms. Jessica Ortega, the variety of fish included 26 dorado, 20 cabrilla, 55 banana fish, 10 triggerfish, 30 rubias, 68 bonito, 21 grouper, 12 giant barracuda, 55 chac-chi, 30 snappers, 4 porgy, 18 huachinangos, 2 pargo, 4 king mackerel, 12 mero, 1 blackfin tuna, 4 Spanish mackerel, 13 yellow stripers, 5 groundfish, 4 grandfish, 1 carabena, 10 cuchas, 3 peyos, 1 guero, 5 needlefish, 1 mako shark, 1 pluma fish, 1 cochino, 15 soapfish, 1 canane, 1 wahoo, 2 rainbow runners and 2 jack crevalle. This area produces an enormously wide range of different fish that truly leaves the angler wondering what may come up next.


PM Climate: A partly cloudy week but pleasant days and evenings that reflected an average of 60 degrees at night to 79 degrees for daytime highs, along with periods of intermittent sunshine.

Sea Conditions: Overall, good conditions prevailed with temps at 80 degrees. Surface breezes flowing mostly from the easterly directions to about 10-11 mph.

Best Bait: The always available ballyhoo baits continue to be the baits of choice by the anglers and the crew and are provided as part of the charter.
