While the billfish are still biting for the Marina El Cid Sportfishing Fleet from Puerto Morelos, it did slow up a little due to the on coming full moon. Look for substantial improvement as the bright moon wanes and the fish slow down on the night bite. According to our on-the-spot reporter, Ms. Jessica Ortega, the fish counts remained good over the past week, albeit, the bottom fishing edged out the surface catching which is typical of a full moon phase. The overall fish counts for a total of 61 days reflected a 3.39 fish average that included 2 white marlin, 5 sailfish, 2 dorado, 12 giant barracuda, 104 bonito, (the fish of the week) 1 blue runner, 6 blackfin tuna, 5 grouper, 10 banana fish, 32 triggerfish, 52 chac-chi fish and 45 snappers.

PM Climate: Air temps are terrific at 73 nights to 87 daytime highs and a 74% humidity ratio for the area. It was a 50-50 sunshine week with a couple of cloudy days with intermittent sunshine periods and all very good for fishing.

Sea Conditions: Sea temps holding at 80-81 degrees for this area. Surface breezes are tropical and flowing from the easterly directions from light in the mornings to about 14 mph in the afternoons.

Best Bait: The predictable ballyhoo baits continue to be the baits of choice or the crews and the anglers and about 99% of all fish taken in this area are taken on ballyhoo baits, either cut baits, filleted or rigged for trolling.

Bait Supply: Continues to be plenty of good, fresh ballyhoo, even during the full moon phase.
