While the full moon did slow the fishing a little, it was still good
enough to keep the billfish counts at better than one per boat day
fished, with the better boats have multiple fish days. Early in the
week the Fish Cabo landed 3 stripers for a single day fishing out in
front of the Finisterra Hotel. Hi boat for the week was the "Gaviota
IV", skippered by Captain Octavio Castillo, with 8 stripers for 5
fishing days. Overall combined fish counts for Gaviota Fleet & Fish
Cabo boats, reporting for a total of 42 days fished, reflected 49
stripers, (40 released) 19 dorado and 105 yellowfin tuna.
Cabo Climate: Sunny & Warm, very pleasant, temps from 67 nights to 95 daytime highs.
Sea Conditions: A strong north-south temp break from Cabo Falso to
the south with Pacific side at 67 and the Sea of Cortez side at 73.
From Cabo and on a line out to the 95 fathom spot and on out to the
1150 fathom spot, temps were at 74-76 degrees.
Best Fishing Area: Striper action was pretty good, (albeit, difficult to get the critters to bite) from just a few miles outside of Cabo Harbor and easterly from there.
Best lure/Bait: Live bait was a must as the billfish were very picky. The tuna were with the porpoise schools and bbit pretty good at the feathers and cedar plugs, especially those in the greens or mackerel colors.
Live bait supply: It was good but mostly caballitos.
