The dorado bite is soaring by the day and the catch numbers are reflecting some easy limit fishing for many boats, along with numerous releases. According to Roberto Marquez, the best fishing is currently on the Pacific side, in an area from the San Cristobal Ridge to the Golden Gate Bank and for those that care to venture on to the Finger Bank, one can expect wide open catches on stripers, dorado, yellowfin and even a few wahoo. Another mediocre area for smaller dorado and a few stripers has been off Finisterra to Cabo Falso, about a mile offshore. Roberto says it's no problem right now to catch billfish but most of the boats are focusing on the easier people pleasing action with the dorado fishing. The overall combined catches for a total of 36 days fished reflected 21 stripers, (18 released) 4 sailfish, (2 released) 31 yellowfin tuna and 321 dorado, (numerous releases). With all of the dorado throughout the area, I would think it will truly bode well for some of the upcoming black and blue marlin tournaments in October. Both dorado and tuna are like candy bars to the bigger billfish.

Cabo Climate: Terrific weather, partly cloudy, varying temps from 76 nights to 95 daytime highs.

Sea Conditions: Excellent, temps ranging from 84 on the Pacific side to 87 at the Gorda Banks, good clarity and light breezes with little swell.

Best Fishing Areas: The Finger Bank is outstanding, but the catches from San Cristobal to Golden Gate have been enormously productive for the fleets.

Best Lure/Bait: The dorado are not shy, at all, and biting well on both the artificial lures and live bait, strip bait and most anything else that wiggles it's way through the water. The billfish best on live bait.

Live Bait Supply: Mostly caballitos and a good supply.
