The inshore sierra bite continues to be phenomenal with the overall
daily catches providing fast action, easy fish limits and numerous
releases. Daily combined averages, (catches & releases) were
exceeding 100 fish per day and for the light tackle or fly fishing
enthusiast, this would be "as good as it gets" fishing. The offshore
fishing has remained stable, with about 75% of the boats reporting
billfish catches, but nearly all boats with 1 or 2 shots at a
billfish. Overall catches for 45 days ffished reflected 10 stripers,
17 sailfish, 26 dorado, 26 yellowfin tuna and 1 mako shark.
Mazatlan Climate: Partly cloudy days, but warm and comfortable, with
temps ranging from 54 nights to 83 daytime highs.
Sea Conditions: Mostly calm with light surface breezes, temps from
72 inshore and rising to 76-77 offshore.
Best Fishing Area: Has moved a little, out to the southwest of the
Marina El Cid at about 20 miles and beyond.
Best Bait/Lure: The billfish are biting the rigged trolling baits,
(mullet) very well, as have the Dorado. The tuna are mostly on tuna
feathers.
