If an angler ever wanted to catch a marlin, this past week was one of the best marlin fishing weeks that I've ever reported on. It was truly a week of marlin mania as the billfish bonanza continued right into March. The hot bite boat for the week was again the "Gaviota VIII, skippered by Captain Juan Dominguez, releasing some 70 stripers for 7 days fished. The overall fleet average was above 5 fish per boat day and the grand totals for the week tallied to 282 stripers with all but 3 released. Just when I thought it was over, the bite came back with a vengeful surge and got better and better. One can only hope it continues through another week or two and it is likely to do just that as long as the water temps hold up.

Cabo Climate: Mostly sunny, warm days, with temps ranging from 61 nights to 88 daytime highs.

Sea Conditions: From the Golden Gate Bank to Cabo the temps held steady at 72. A current break at the Jaime bank and along the 1000 fathom curve, temps were 74-75 on one side and 72 on the other. Good water clarity and sea conditions overall with light NW breezes.

Best Fishing Area: The Golden Gate Bank was unquestionably the spot to fish.

Best Lure/Bait: Live mackerel were the bait of the week and could be replenished at the bank.

Live Bait Supply: Mix of caballitos and mackerel in good supply.
