THE IXTAPA-ZIHUATANEJO FISHING REPORT FOR THE INDEPENDENT FISHING FLEET

Captain Temo Verboonen, our local reporter for Zihuatanejo and surrounding area, reports a few strikes in the offshore waters but generally, slower fishing throughout the area, mostly due to the full moon in conjunction with a cooler intercontinental equatorial current passing through the offshore waters. Inshore action remains good for the bigger jack crevalle but the roosterfish are still in hiding. Our weather is still picture perfect with lots of sunshine and toasty warm days and enormously pleasant evenings. The water is pretty green for the first 10 miles or so and then turns to the bluewater liked by the local big game fish, especially the sailfish and blue marlin.

IZ Climate: Picture perfect weather. Sunny and warm days with pleasant evenings. Temps that varied from 65 nights to 90 daytime highs and a 55% humidity level.

Sea Conditions: Inshore temps at 79-81 degrees & rising to about 83 degrees in the offshore waters. Lots of green water out to about 10 miles or so and then bluing up to fishable conditions. The tropical surface breezes have been from varied directions and averaged about 9 mph. Excellent clarity outside the 10 mile mark and beyond.

Best Lure/Bait: The rigged baits were best in the offshore waters and the live bait was best for the inshore waters.

Best Fishing Area: There was no specific conglomeration of fish this past week in any given area and the boats were working in different directions for the occasional strike.

Bait Supply: Remains very good for fresh baits for rigging, provided as part of the charter and for live baits at $5.00 per dozen.
