THE CABO SAN LUCAS FISHING REPORT FOR THE GAVIOTA SPORTFISHING FLEET & FISH CABO FLEET

The full moon probably didn't have too much of an effect on the fishing from Cabo San Lucas his past week as the billfish catching has been considerably slow for the past couple of weeks and this appears to be a carryover. The fish counts in general are quite low but then, the numbers of trips have slowed considerably for the various sportfishing fleets which is typically attributed to the fishing results. The only two marlin caught this past week was aboard the "Fish Cabo", skippered by Captain Gil Marquez. Both fish were released. The overall fish counts for a total of 19 days fished reflected 2 stripers, (released) 4 wahoo, 1 yellowfin tuna, 18 skipjack tuna, 32 Sierra and 29 dorado.

Cabo Climate: Air temps varied from 56 nights to 84 daytime highs and a 51% humidity level. Mostly cloudy days with periods of intermittent sunshine.

Sea Conditions: Cooler waters surrounding Lands End on both sides of the peninsula. Sea temps on both sides at 71-73 degrees and rising to about 75 degrees just inside the 1000 fathom curve, across the 95 fathom spot and into the Sea of Cortez. Surface breezes flowing mostly from the westerly directions with an average of about 10 mph.

Best Fishing Area: The Cabo Falso area was best by far but there was no real concentration of fish in any o the areas on either side of the peninsula.

Best Bait/Lure: Live bait enticed the two marlin to bite. Most of the dorado and wahoo, skipjack, etc. were taken on the artificials.

Bait Supply: The live bait supply was in good shape and the full moon phase didn't seem to have too much effect on the bait supply. Live bait is still at $3.00 per bait.
