THE PUERTO MORELOS FISHING REPORT FOR THE MARINA EL CID SPORTFISHING FLEET, (CANCUN TO COZUMEL AREA)

According to our Marina El Cid Fleet Reporter, Ms. Jessica Ortega, the catching remains in high-gear for the area and the anglers are having amazing winter action for both, surface and bottom fishing. Showing up in this week's report was a very off season sailfish and with any luck at all, it could mean an early billfish season for Puerto Morelos. Adding to the excitement for the week was the substantial increase in the dorado counts, (mahi mahi) and hot action with the bonito. The overall catch report for a total of 53 days fished reflected a 27 species mixed-bag catch that included 1 sailfish, 32 dorado, 125 bonito, 1 king mackerel, 11 giant barracuda, 12 needlefish, 1 wahoo, 3 blackfin tuna, 3 Spanish Mackerel, 30 chac-chi, 9 triggerfish, 16 banana fish, 27 snappers, 4 peto, 25 mero, 15 groundfish, 2 porgy, 7 cuchas, 13 soapfish, 5 pargo, 2 plumas, 4 huachinangos, 1 pez trumpeta, 6 rubias, 18 cochinos, 13 cabrilla and 1pampano.

PM Climate: Temps are stable at 61 nights to 82 daytime highs and a humidity level of 71. There were scattered PM showers on Wednesday and AM on Sunday. Overall, it was a partly cloudy week with intervals of sunshine.

Sea Conditions: Surface breezes flowing in from the easterly directions that ranged from light to 18 mph. Sea temps holding at 79-80 degrees throughout the area.

Best Bait/Lure: The always available ballyhoo continues to be the bait of choice for the anglers and the crew.
