THE IXTAPA-ZIHUATANEJO FISHING REPORT FOR THE INDEPENDENT SPORTFISHING FLEET

Captain Temo Verboonen reported in for the Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo area, letting us know that the action continues and the bite is in high gear, adding, picture perfect weather and a calm ocean. He said, "It's still like someone throws the switch at 11:00 A.M., and the fish start biting for everyone. You can hear radio chatter that takes off right at 11:00, with a good number of oats that are experiencing simultaneous action". The sailfish bite remains excellent and still a few blue marlin in the mix, along with dorado catches. However, the dorado bite has slowed this past week. The inshore action remains loaded with big jack crevalle and even a few roosterfish mixed in with the jacks, biting well on live bait and artificials, too.

IZ Climate: Fabulous weather with temps that ranged from 65 nights to 88 daytime highs and a 65% humidity level, with lots of sunshine early week and changing to cloudy for Thursday & Friday and then back to a sunny and passing cloud mix for the weekend.

Sea Conditions: Tropical surface breezes were flowing in mostly from the westerly directions and ranged from calm to 9 mph. Sea temps were stable both inshore to offshore and ranged from 81-83 degrees with warmer waters in the offshore waters.

Best Fishing Area: Continues to be near the 15-mile mark straight out from the entrance to the Bay. Excellent blue water area.

Best Bait/Lure: Rigged trolling baits were working best for the offshore waters and live bait and poppers working very well for the inshore waters.

Bait Supply: Remains readily available for both, fresh baits for rigging and live bait at $5.00 per dozen.
