THE IXTAPA-ZIHUATANEJO FISHING REPORT FOR THE INDEPENDENT SPORTFISHING FLEET

The big bite from Zihuatanejo continues right through the full moon phase and according to Captain Temo Verboonen, the only difference it made was the bite was best in the early morning periods and slowed down after 11:00 A.M. Lots of sailfish, marlin and dorado continue to bite and the skippers are reporting numerous strikes for every fishing day. About the only other noticeable difference is the movement of the blue water to another 4 miles farther out. The catching remains terrific for the anglers and allows for those long remembered fun fishing days. The inshore bite remains very good for the big jack crevalle, along with a few roosterfish but has slowed up on the Sierras, dorado and bonito. All-in-all, the fishing remains very good and the customers continue to be very happy with the fishing days.

IZ Climate: A sunny-cloudy mixed week but warm days and pleasant evenings and nights. Temps remain at an average of 66 nights to 91 daytime highs with a 58% humidity level.

Sea Conditions: This past week has been a mostly westerly flow for the surface breezes to about 9 mph. Sea temps are stable at 83-84 degrees, both inshore and offshore.

Best Fishing Area: About 15 miles outside the Bay and working outward from there has been providing great action but some of the boats have caught plenty of fish.

Best Lure/Bait: Rigged baits and artificials working well in the offshore waters and live bait still working best for the inshore catches.

Bait Supply: Remains excellent! Live bait available at $5.00 per dozen and fresh baits for rigging are plentiful and provided as part of the charters.
