THE MAZATLAN FISHING REPORT FOR THE ARIES SPORTFISHING FLEET, (MARINA EL CID, PACIFIC)

What a dramatic change in the fishing for The Aries Sportfishing Fleet this past week. Our on-the-spot reporter, Ms. Kitcia Ceja, forwarded a very favorable fishing report that reflected a substantial increase in the billfish activity in the offshore waters, along with continued fast action for the inshore super pangas. Definitely, it has been a terrific fishing week for the month of February and with any luck at all, it will just keep right on going into the spring. The offshore cruisers reported in for 21 offshore fishing days that resulted in an 86% chance for landing a billfish and 11 inshore super panga fishing days that produced limit style bottom fishing with incredible action for the anglers. The overall fleet catches for 21 days fished in the offshore waters reflected 16 stripers, (5 released) 2 sailfish, (1 released) 1 skipjack, (released) 10 dorado, (1 released)and 1 mako shark. The inshore super panga action for 11 days fished reflected 1 striper, limits on snappers, limits on permit, 86 rock perch, 8 triggerfish, 5 skipjack, 1 dorado and 16 jack crevalle, (8 released). Unquestionably, it's been an incredibly productive fishing week for the entire fleet and barring any unforeseen changes in the overall conditions for the area, it will likely continue.

Mazatlan Climate: It has been mostly sunny and warm days with a few passing clouds in the mix and air temperatures ranging from 57 nights to 84 daytime highs and a humidity level at 66%.

Sea Conditions: Sea temps ranged from inshore to offshore at 77 to 79 degrees. The tropical surface winds were flowing mostly from the westerly directions from calm to 12 MPH. The Pacific side, from the shoreline to about 10 miles offshore is at 73 degrees and rises to 74-75 at the temp brake. Cabo San Lucas to Los Frailes is also at 74 from the shore and out to about 10 miles and then rising to 75 at the break.

Best Fishing Area: The better offshore fishing was out to the south and southwest of the Marina El Cid, starting at about 16-18 miles and then working outbound from there.

Best Lure/Bait: Rigged baits were working very well for the billfish and dorado.

Bait Supply: The bait supply continues t be very healthy and plenty of live bait and fresh rigging baits are currently available. Live baits are $1.00 per bait and fresh baits for rigging are being provided as part of the charter fishing arrangement.

THE CABO SAN LUCAS FISHING REPORT FOR THE GAVIOTA SPORTFISHING FLEET AND FISH CABO FLEET Where did they go? The fishing this past week fell flat on it's face for the Cabo sportfishing fleets and resulted in fewer charters and anglers going out. It really has become that time of year when the area typically goes into the winter slump for catching of billfish and dorado and that seems like right where things are, today. While billfish are...... Read More
