According to Captain Temo Verboonen, our local representative for Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo, the fishing has been getting better and better over the past 10 days, with good water temperatures and water clarity at just 10 miles. Temo says the ocean is still pretty rough on some days and the rains are still coming down in squalls, but the fish don't seem to mind, at all. The hardest part about this time frame is the lack of anglers in the area, but for those that do go out, the catches have been very good and reflected plenty of sailfish and quality sized dorado, (averaging 30 lbs. or so). The inshore fishing has also improved considerably, especially in the nearby area of Morros de Potosi, which is producing big rainbow runners, yellowtail jacks, roosterifish and even a few yellowfin tuna. He pointed out that we are now coming into the pompano season, when the fish start biting well on live anchovetas and small sardinas. Overall, the picture for top-notch action from Zihuatanejo is unquestionably on the very bright side.

IZ Climate: Mostly cloudy with some scattered thunderstorms, especially in the PM & nights, humid, temps from 73 nights to 91 daytime highs.

Sea Conditions: Some rough and bumpy days, but conditions are improving with each passing day. Temps at 85-86, good clarity outside 10 miles.

Best Fishing Area: Inshore is good for the roosterfish, rainbow runners and yellowtail jacks and the offshore waters becoming very productive for bigger dorado and sailfish.

Best Bait/Lure: Rigged baits best in the offshore waters and smaller live bait in the inshore waters, along with pencil poppers, (red/ white working well).
