The full moon did have an effect on the fishing from Cabo this past
week and the bite did slow down a little. However, there was still
very good fishing in the overall catches and "Gaviota VIII",
skippered by Captain Juan Dominguez, was again the top boat for the
week, producing 16 stripers for 4 days fished. The numbers of boat
days fished were substantially down this week and there was a
noticeable lack of anglers at the docks; probably a reflection of our
overall economy. The overall combined fish count for 31 days fished
reflected 77 stripers, (71 released) and 36 dorado.
Cabo Climate: Mostly cloudy days with temps that varied from 62
nights to 85 daytime highs.
Sea Conditions: Holding very well for this time of year and ranging
from 76 at the Golden Gate to 79 at the Jaime and at the Gorda Banks,
with good, clean water in most locations.
Best Fishing Area: The Golden Gate Bank remains the prime spot for
the billfish and while there were some good reports from the Finger
Bank, (52 miles from Cabo) there was just no real reason to make the
long run.
Best Lure/Bait: live bait was very important this past week,
especially the mackerel caught at the Golden Gate Bank.
Live Bait Supply: Remained readily available for mostly caballitos.
The mackerel were available at the Golden Gate Bank.
